Overview of the revolution

This documentary is a very good overview of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. There are some interviews with those that participated and lived through the revolution. The documentary shows the pressure put on the Hungarian leader Imre Nagy by the Soviets to stop the Hungarian Revolution. Eventually, Nagy would support the freedom fighters and officially back them. There was great debate among the communist states in how to deal with the Hungarian situation. Eventually, it was decided that force would be used to crush the revolution. Many communist states in the world feared that similar revolutions could occur in their own countries. Finally on November 4, the Soviet Army re-entered Budapest and crushed the revolution.
