220,000



According to the Hungarian government, 220,000 Hungarians are becoming the victims of crime each year. This figure was released by the  Ministry if Interior at a conference organized on the International Day for Victims of Crime. February 22 is a memorial day for crime victims in several European countries. Hungary has observed this day since 1993. The Council of Europe published the Charter of Victims of Crime on February 22, 1990. Hungarian Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér said that nearly half a million people are living near victims and suffer an emotional and financial trauma as a result of crimes.
