During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, a significant number of Russian soldiers that were sent to put down the revolution at the onset, defied their orders and refused to fire on the Hungarian people. They were rapidly shipped back to Russia. Some of the Russian soldiers were also executed for refusing to fight.
