Get a close and personal look at a battle tank from the Hungarian Army! This is an excellent video that shows a Hungarian T-72 tank along with a rare interview with the tank crew. This footage was shot by the media wing of the Hungarian Armed Forces recently. T-72 tanks make up the majority of Hungary's armoured battalions and date from the Cold War era. The tanks still serve with the army to this very day.
The majority of Hungary's current military equipment is from the 1970s and 1980s. Hungary used to be a member of the Warsaw Pact and received much of its weapons and equipment from the Soviet Union. Hungary is now a part of NATO and is currently modernizing its military inventory and stock. In a few years to come, much of the old Soviet military hardware and vehicles will be gone and replaced with modern western equipment. The T-72 tank is still and effective weapon but is now dated according to military experts. The Russians are currently using the latest T-90 tank in their armed forces. Only the former Warsaw pact countries such as Hungary still use the T-72 tank.
It should be noted that when Hungary joined NATO in the 1990s, they had to retire all their old former communist military leadership such as generals and high ranking officers. This was due to political and military security reasons. The armed forces are now much more professional and modern than they were under the communist regime during the Cold War. Hungary's armed forces has a long and proud history and they will continue to defend the country and its people from any external threat.
