Leftist mob protests Horthy

This past Sunday, 2,000 leftists showed up at Hősök tere (Heroes Square) in central Budapest to protest what they call the "Horthy Cult". They protested the ongoing rehabilitation of Regent Miklós Horthy in Hungary. The protesters complained that Horthy couldn't be a role model for Hungarians and didn't deserve statues and monuments. Judging by the flags and banners displayed by the protesters, far leftists, pro-European Unionists, Antifa (Anti-fascists) and Roma (gypsy) advocates were present.

The leftists were countered by a smaller group of Hungarian nationalists and patriots who began shouting them down. Many verbal exchanges took place between the two groups that were separated by a fence. There was a large number of Budapest police present who kept the groups apart. The police specifically targeted the counter-demonstrators by surrounding them. They did not allow them to move to "mingle" with the leftists even after the protest had ended. Also, the police did not allow them to leave the scene until the leftists had vacated the area. In addition, two counter-demonstrators were arrested by the police.
