Quote of the day

"The workers did not believe in anything the communists promised them, because the communists had cheated their promises so often. Under Communism, we should have a share in governing Hungary, but instead we're the poorest people in the country. We're just regarded as factory fodder. The Communists nationalized all the factories and similar enterprises, proclaiming the slogan, 'the factory is yours - you work for yourself.' Exactly the opposite of this was true."

Quoted from a Hungarian worker of the Red Star Tractor factory in 1953. The communist regime was hated so much in Hungary by 1953, that workers' cynicism spread outside the workplace. By this time, workers were ready to destroy the regime and all that it stood for.

Significant number

100

According to Romania's ethnic Hungarian MEP László Tőkés, there have been 100 anti-Hungarian incidents in Romania in the last two years. A watch service has been set up by ethnic Hungarians in Transylvania to monitor anti-Hungarian incidents and document them. The service wants to call attention to the violations of ethnic Hungarians' rights in Romania. Desecration of Hungarian monuments, insults targeting ethnic Hungarian youth and displays of anti-Hungarian graffiti and slogans have become more common in Romania.

"Poor and Prejudiced"

Excerpt from Spiegel  (http://www.spiegel.de)

________________________________________________________________________________________________

After the turn of the millennium, Hungary became the first Eastern European victim of globalization, as many foreign companies moved further east. Large chunks of the country's economy, such as the agricultural and food industries, were too underdeveloped to survive the country's accession to the EU in 2004.

The socialist-liberal coalition government in office between 2002 and 2010 solved none of Hungary's pressing problems, excelling instead at protracted political disputes, mismanagement and corruption. Without these eight lost years, Orbán and his right-wing nationalist Fidesz Party would not have earned their overwhelming two-thirds election victory in April 2010.

Editor's Note: An older article from the German Speigel from January 12, 2012. This article is one of the many that came out from western media outlets in the last couple of years bashing the conservative government and people of Hungary. The theme? The usual, painting Hungarians in a negative light. It's very interesting how the mainstream media always makes some kind of connection between poverty and nationalism, or the connection between the lack of education and the support for conservative right-wing parties.

Regardless, the excerpt that was pulled from the article shows even the mainstream media admitting the socialists did nothing from 2002-2010 while in power. Rather than focus on the well-being of the nation and its people, the leftist government was involved in corruption and mismanagement for 8 years! Judging from current polls, it looks as if the Hungarian people are fed up with the liberal-leftist politicians and their politics. The conservative right-wing parties will either make gains or at least maintain their majority position.

"All for Hungary"

(Embedding disabled by request of video uploader, please click link to watch on YouTube)

A very good documentary on the growth of support for the Hungarian right-wing amongst Hungary's youth.  The majority of these supporters have higher education and are not uneducated as the left-wing often claim. The reason why more and more Hungarians are supporting right-wing parties and the nationalist Jobbik party is because they are fed up with the mainstream parties being full of former communists.

To the youth and people of Hungary today, it's as if nothing changed in 1989 with former communists still participating in national politics. Former communists and their children still sit in the Hungarian Parliament today. Hungarian youth see Jobbik as a "fresh start" compared to the other mainstream parties. This documentary is by Dutch FoliaTV. Watch the video and make up your own mind.

Significant number

97%

According to Canada's immigration minister, the number of Hungarians seeking asylum in Canada has dropped 97%. Chris Alexander said that the changes to Canada's immigration policies have helped to reduce the number of Hungarians who were seeking asylum in the country. The majority of asylum seekers from Hungary were from the Roma community (gypsies).

Mainstream media exposed again

If you still don't believe that the mainstream media is controlled, better watch this YouTube video. Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien and his team expose the mainstream media. Note how all of the different news stations are saying the same thing in the same order. Keep in mind that a majority of news and TV stations in the west are owned by a small select handful of corporations.

Hungarians see secret archives

The Russians have made secret archives available to Hungarian researchers according to Hungarian News Agency MTI. A Hungarian delegation recently visited a Russian military archive to examine secret documents. This is a significant event because it is the first time that the Russians have allowed a Hungarian delegation to do so.

Quote of the Day

"Hungarians must decide whether they want a modern, European republic or the restoration of the Horthy era.”

A recent comment from Hungarian Socialist Party leader Attila Mesterhazy. He was elected prime minister-candidate of the opposition party alliance which has called itself "Unity". His comment came at a Socialist congress last weekend that only the left-wing Unity would be able to overthrow the conservative Orban government in the upcoming national election in April. According to the left-wing parties, the conservative Fidesz government should be ousted because its policies are damaging to Hungarian society and unacceptable in a democracy.

Editor's note: It should be noted that the right-wing Hungarian parties only seek to protect Hungary and her traditional conservative values. For most of her history, Hungary was a state/society with conservative values. Nearly fifty years of communism (far left-wing) destroyed traditional Hungary as we knew her. Mesterhazy's version of a "modern European Hungarian republic" is selling her out to foreign and global interests. He would rather see Hungary as an obedient servant of an external power/institution.

You've got real class!

There is the notion that politicians are supposed to be intelligent, polite and tolerant individuals that behave appropriately, at least while in public. This YouTube video shows socialist Tibor Szanyi in the Hungarian Parliament "flipping the bird" or giving the middle finger to a right-wing politician while parliament was in session. Tibor, you've got real class!

Quote of the Day

“If I weren’t afraid of the expression itself, I’d say it’s a cold civil war election situation, where of course there is no shooting, but what the participants say is like they’re really standing on opposite sides of the barricade.”

Analyst and commentator Gábor Török on the upcoming general election in Hungary on April 6, 2014.

Editor's note: This quote illustrates how polarized Hungarian society has become in terms of the current political situation. There are those who support the left-wing parties in Hungary that still yearn for the good old "Goulash Communist" days. Many in left-wing Hungarian parties today are former card-carrying communist party members. The Hungarian Socialist Party is actually the inheritor of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (1956-1989).

It is a well-known fact that the left-wing parties in Hungary are receiving financial support from foreign interests/bodies. The supporters of the left-wing in Hungary are generally pro-European Union and globalist-friendly in nature. On the other side, the right-wing parties in Hungary are usually anti-European Union, pro-Hungarian and pro-Christian.

The latest polls project that the right-wing parties will make large gains and that the ruling conservative Fidesz party will win another term in office comfortably. This support shows that the Hungarian people are fed up with the same old politics and antics of the left which continues to work against the national interest.

Happy Hungarian Culture Day!

The original hand-written document of the Hungarian poem/anthem (1823)

Today, January 22, is Hungarian Culture Day. Since 1989, Hungarians celebrate their culture on this day. They look to their old traditions and roots to find meaning in what it is to be Hungarian. This day strengthens the national consciousness of Hungarians young and old. The 1823 poem by Ferenc Kölcsey, which became the modern-day Hungarian national anthem, is recited by school children on this day.

The lyrics of the poem/anthem in English are as follows:

Quote of the Day

“Dear Ukrainian friends, don’t come to the EU! You are going to be sorry!”

A recent comment from István Lovas, who is the Brussels correspondent of the Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet. In the December 2013 interview with the Voice of Russia, regarding the ongoing political drama in Ukraine, Lovas said that people in Hungary are suffering due to Hungary's EU membership. He added that many Hungarians are now disenchanted with the European Union.

Read the interview here: link

Editor's note: Since joining the European Union in 2004, Hungary has basically lost and given up its autonomy. Hungary has now become a "colony" to a much larger political entity (EU), very much reminiscent of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It has become a "dumping ground" for cheap western European goods. The average Hungarian now lives in uncertainty and the country and its conservative government receives bad press from the western media on a daily basis.

The vote in favour of Hungary joining the EU in 2003 was 83.8 per cent of votes cast, with a voter turnout of 45.6 per cent. After a very disappointing decade-long relationship with the EU, a recent survey by Gallup shows that 63 per cent of Hungarians are now disillusioned with the EU. We can see why the warning from Lovas is entirely understandable.

At the end of the Second World War, millions of ethnic Germans were deported from Central and Eastern European countries because of the actions of Nazi Germany. They were deported because "collective guilt" and because they simply shared the same language as their mother country. The deportation was a punishment based on the notion of collective crime by an evil regime. The ethnic Germans in Hungary were sent back to Germany in wagons, many of which had signs saying “Farewell, our homeland!”.

Beautiful Flash Mob in Budapest

A very unique flash mob gathered in the historic Buda Castle District recently. This flash mob was made to be the overture of the 2013 Ars Sacra Festival. The song that they sang was The 'Evening Song' (originally "The Evening Prayer"). It is a Hungarian folk song that was adapted by Zoltán Kodály for his choral work. Zoltán Kodály was a very famous Hungarian composer of the 20th century. The song, expressing the essence of the "Hungarian soul" was sung in one of the most wonderful parts of Budapest. You can see the positive reaction of the foreign tourists gathered there. Even thought they didn't understand the lyrics in Hungarian, the beauty of music was enjoyed by all.

The lyrics to the song are as follows:

Quote of the Day

"After joining the European Union, the country (Hungary) was de-industrialized and our agriculture was ruined."

One of the comments made by Jobbik President Gábor Vona during his traditional state of the nation address at Sportmax Center in Buda on the weekend. Jobbik is a right-wing nationalist political party in Hungary which has generated a lot of controversy in recent years. They are often labelled by the left-wing in Hungary as extremists and fascists.

Editor's Note: Ironically, many members of the Hungarian left-wing today were former communists or had parents who were communist party members before the democratic changes of 1989. Whether you agree with the politics of the Jobbik party or not, the statement by Gábor Vona is entirely correct. Since joining the European Union in 2004, Hungary's once prosperous industrial and agricultural sectors have all but disappeared. What remains of both sectors today is largely foreign-owned and not in the hands of the Hungarian people as it used to be. The majority of the profits generated by these foreign-owned businesses eventually leave the country.
