Horthy liberates Budapest in November 1919. He rode into the city on his white horse. |
Hungarian communists seized power in Hungary in 1919 and established the Hungarian Soviet Republic. The Red Terror of this communist government killed many innocent Hungarians as gangs of Bolshevik enforcers went around the countryside killing at will. A counterrevolutionary government was established and Admiral Horthy Miklós became the commander of its forces. Horthy entered Budapest at the head of the National Army and liberated the city after the Romanians evacuated the city. Budapest was liberated on November 16, 1919.
